New Balance Track & Field Center at The Armory, January 3rd – New York’s Catholic high schoolers escaped the cold and snowy day to compete at the CHSAA Junior Weight and Novice Championships.

Ryan Herrera-Murphy and Matt Fay of Iona Prep continued to shine at The Armory. The two took first and second in the boys pole vault, clearing 15-06.00 and 15-00.00, respectively. Look for them to make some noise at the Hispanic Games on January 9-10th.

Nicholas DeMarco of Chaminade HS won the boys 55m preliminary and final rounds in 6.70 and 6.80.

Ted Colter of Xavier HS was able to fend off Mike LaFamina of St. John the Baptist HS in the boys 600m. The two were neck and neck during the bell lap, but Colter fought to pull away during the backstretch, finishing in 1:30.30 ahead of LaFamina’s 1:31.30.

North Rockland HS’s boys team took the 55m shuttle hurdle relay in 31.90.

New Rochelle

After anchoring his DMR team to a 11:22.6 victory, Brian Blancato of New Rochelle HS reported, "Our 400 leg got hurt, but we had some guys who stepped up and did well. Our goal for the rest of the season is to just make some noise."

St. John the Baptist HS took the one and two spots in the boys 4x200m relay. It was a race to the finish with the anchor legs from the A and B teams dipping hard at the line to finish in 1:40.30 and 1:40.60. Mount St. Michael HS’s squad took third with a time of 1:41.70.

The girls of St. John the Baptist mirrored their boys team, taking first and second place in 1:52.90 and 1:53.10. Sacred Heart HS finished third in 1:53.80.
